“What about the Manger!” by P.T.Mammen
Today we will identify what makes this manger significant. There is a deeper sense of fulfillment, something mystical or actualizing the promise of God. A manger is an ordinary experience but this one in Bethlehem stands out in all history. The Church of Nativity is built over the site and one has to crawl into the basement level through a small entrance. This was necessary to avoid the Muslim invaders from desecrating the place many times in past centuries. We know that the church reveres the place for many reasons.
1. This manger was a real let down, they would rather have found the king in the palace. This is a real problem for learned people. They expect to find answers to question in their way. The star kept on moving, and real wise people keep on pursuing answers until they find God. How about you?
2. Among mounting problems surrounding their journey wise men ultimately found God in the manger. When Jesus Christ is found by faith the manger becomes a place of real answers to problems. Have you found God? He is already revealed. Simply open your heart to Him. When we find God in the midst of struggles of uncertainty, anxiety and failure of world systems there is a real joy that envelopes us.
3. Manger becomes a place of worship. When we see God there is only one response and that is to respond to His humility, limitations and confinement and bow down in worship. He deserves our brokenness and willingness to abandon our comfort zones and offer heart felt worship. Jesus came to redeem us, create a clean heart and give us the Spirit to enable us to totally approach God as people who have found grace.
4. Manger becomes a place where we give our best. The most precious gifts were placed before Jesus. Each individual has their own peculiar gifts to offer before God. The sum total of the gifts is a balanced action befitting the king. You do not look at others to compare what they are offering. The question is “are you giving your best?” God accepts your gifts and uses it for His kingdom.
5. Manger gives you a change of plan or direction. The enemy has created an attractive plan for his advantage. However helpful and appealing the design is, your encounter with God will change the direction. The sense of failure is changed to fit God’s design for your life, family’s future and for His kingdom. May God enable us to experience the manger miracle.
