“Named him Jesus” by PT Mammen

Scripture: Matthew 1:18-25

Today we will study the significance in the name “Jesus”. Angel gave this unique name to the God-child born in Bethlehem of Judea. Many other persons have been given this name at that time and since then. The meaning of the name applies only to Jesus of Nazareth. His name has varied implications. Jesus reminds us of God’s own methodology for our salvation. The savior makes us conscious of our sin.

In His name sin of the whole world has been forgiven.

Efficiency of salvation through Jesus does not validate forgiveness for the whole world. Salvation is appropriated by faith. Love and grace of God are sufficient for all, but the drawing of the Spirit is necessary for revelation of sin, righteousness and judgment to create the desire in the heart of every soul to turn to Christ. Conviction is at every level of receiving the gift of salvation.

Salvation from the guilt of sin removes condemnation. Romans 8:1.  Salvation from the power of sin enables us to live a sanctified life. This is a contemporary dynamic experience. Rom 6:11-14.  Salvation from the presence of sin occurs when our bodies are redeemed at the coming of Christ to receive the church. Rom. 8:23
