“People and their ways” by Dr. P.T.Mammen
Scripture Reference: Acts 18:1-17
Today we will see how people react to issues confronting them. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a standard with which we can understand people. We know that all who hear the gospel do not believe and join the church. The history of the church is surrounded by people and God.
Let us observe some names in this chapter.
1. Jesus the Christ, the savior, Messiah to the Jews.
2. Paul the preacher
3. Claudius the emperor of Rome AD 41- 54 ordered all Jews to leave.
4. Aquila of Pontus
5. Priscilla, wife of Aquila worked together with husband, hosted Paul, helped Paul to make a living, harmony in marriage, great example of Christian witness tried to persuade Jews and Greeks to come to faith in Jesus Christ. They accompanied Paul on his journey, willing to stay back while Paul went to reason with others.
6. Silas, a solid helper, considered to be older than Paul suffered with Paul in the jail.
7. Timothy, always available to serve.
8. Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, a gentile worshiping in the synagogue.
9. Crispus, the synagogue ruler who accepted the message with the family.
10. Gallio was the proconsul of Achaia, heard the case brought by Jews against Paul. They wanted Paul to be punished. An indifferent and politically correct acquitted Paul which enraged the Jews.
11. Sosthenes became ruler of the Synagoge when Crispus defected. Jews felt Sosthenes did not present a strong case. So they beat him up, but came to faith and followed Paul.
12. Apollos , a learned man proficient in scriptures spoke boldly.
