“Thanksgiving & Prison Break” by P.T.Mammen

Scripture Reference: Acts 15:1-14

Acts 16 gives another drama involving preachers, message, converts, opposition because of profit motives, false charges, severe persecution, a Christian response to unjust interventions with thanksgiving, songs and prayer, angel of the Lord shaking the whole prison, conversion of the Philippian jailer and standing up for justice.

Note conversion of Lydia, so named because she came from the region of Lydia. Heard the word preached and accepted the message. Conversion took place and the household was baptized.

The conversion of the slave girl possessed of the evil spirit created the problems for the apostles. Owners of the slave girl were infuriated because of the loss of income from sooth sayings. The owners trumped up charges against the apostles and every thing came upon them in a flash. They were falsely imprisoned.

Roman jail had three distinct parts.

1. Common area prison had light and fresh air
2. Interior area shut off by iron doors with bars and locks and
3. The dungeon where executions took place or condemned prisoners were kept.

In the midst of your prison stay, bound and possible death the believer needs to exercise what we know to do. Have a worship session of praise, singing, prayer and expounding of the scripture. In God’s way He will order deliverance. Your deliverance is for the salvation of others not for personal pleasure. Jailors honest question was answered by a simple message of faith and hope.
