“Breaking Barriers” by PT Mammen

Scripture Reference: Acts 10:23-48

Today we will identify how God opened the way for gentiles to receive the word.  God prepares the way for us to receive the message. Looking at Cornelius and Peter we see direct intervention of God in revealing His truths.

Cornelius:
  1. Feared God. There are good hearted people who love God and revere Him with a genuine desire to know Him. Whether they are believers or not they do the right thing. Fear in this instance is not a negative impulse, rather an honest reflection of who He is.
  2. Ready to be good to people in need. Generosity is a high virtue. We are to share with those in need. At the same time needy people should be willing to do their part to help the situation. There are unique times when we should be willing to extend a helping hand. God honors such an act of kindness.
  3. Willing to listen to what God will say through His messengers (angels).
  4. Kept a positive relationship with those in his care.
  5. Obtained a good report from others.
Peter:
  1. Prayer was the controlling force.
  2. Prepared to receive new means of revelation. God uses imagery to communicate significant truths that go far beyond the immediate but with eternal purpose.
  3. Willing to listen to new ideas even though they are contrary to tradition. Took the first step to accepting gentiles.
  4. Willing to receive new guests and provide hospitality.
  5. Ready to go where God wants and do what He wants.
  6. Shared the complete message of forgiveness, repentance and reconciliation in Jesus.
  7. Allowed the full ministry of the Spirit.
  8. Ministered the full sacrament to allow entry into full stature.
