"Love at work" by PT Mammen

Today we will look at three confessions of Peter, two looks from Jesus and true meaning of love of God.  Peter had made the famous confession about Jesus, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” Mat. 16:13-20. Secondly he claimed, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will” Mat. 26:31-35. First was a revealed truth. Second was a well-intentioned Peter, but weak in face of opposition. After Jesus was arrested, Jewish leaders made all sorts of false accusations against Jesus, and His own disciples disowned Him. Luke 22:54-62.  After the predicted third denial of Peter, Jesus turned and looked at Peter. This was an all-searching look of compassion, sympathy and desire to restore the relationship. Peter was guilty and felt condemned but the love of the Lord led him to repentance.

One the shores of Galilee Jesus confronted Peter with a heart of mercy and grace. When we falter, Jesus pours out His grace in abundance and invites us to repentance and newness. Restoration requires loving care, direct and personal transaction, firm requirement to own up to the problems and affirm the love for the Lord. Repetition is to firm up the commitment. Pre-eminent commandment is to love the Lord.
