“Oil and Fire” by PT Mammen

Today we will focus on the  baptism Jesus gives from Luke 3: 2-18.

John the Baptist came to prepare the way. Ref. Isaiah 40.  The message of John was of repentance, purification and judgment.  Bearing fruit according to the act of repentance was contingent to turning to God.

Claim had to be demonstrated with resultant action.  Because you are baptized by the Spirit acts of righteousness had to follow.  Christian concept of good deeds is to be correctly understood. Salvation is by grace only not of works.
Because  of salvation experience Christians are to be engaged in acts of righteousness. Salvation was already purchased by Christ’s sacrifice.

The classes of people referred to indicates the need for dutiful unselfishness and quiet generosity reflecting the spirit of humility that previously prophet Micah demanded in 6:8. Baptism of the Spirit is to recreate believers to be like the person of Christ. 1Cor. 12:12-13
Once baptized by the spirit we should continually be filled. Eph. 5:18.
Sometimes devoted and concerted prayers are needed with fasting and in the true spirit of repentance.
Baptism of fire refers to judgment for correction and purification, Luke 3:17, Isaiah 6:1-3,1Cor. 3:12
May the mighty power of the Holy Spirit fall afresh upon us to affirm in us the qualities of the Kingdom of God.
