"A Special Angel!" by PT Mammen
Today we will continue on the Christmas theme. The ministry of angels is very significant during Christmas time more than the many occasions. Mostly they were carrying messages to those surrounding the birth of Christ. Chiefly St. Luke’s gospel and the book of Acts employ the ministry of angels frequently. Only Gabriel and Michael are named angels. (Daniel 8:16, 9:21 Luke 1:26, Jude 9)
Angels are “sent ones with a message” to accomplish a specific mission. After a long period of silence an angel appears to announce the birth of the forerunner of Jesus, John the Baptist. Gabriel’s position on the right side does not carry any specialty, but affirm the definiteness of the message.
A heavenly interposition in the seasons of human history always evokes attention, fear, comfort, peace and security. Most important message from the angel is salvation and freedom from fear.
The word from the angel is not to be trifled with, but is expected to be believed and accepted. Interpreting God’s message in terms of human reasoning may result in the loss of privilege. Whether the message is accepted by faith or not the mission announced will be fulfilled.
A believer becomes an angel when we fulfill God’s mission. Jesus has instructed us to be witnesses. A message is being entrusted to us. In this world of chaos and fear may we live out the joy of Christmas and be His special angels.
