"What is special about us!" by P.T.Mammen
Our position in Christ makes us unique. Christians have the distinction of being a special people. 1Peter 2:9 defines our special role and position.
1. God has chosen us before the foundation of the world in Christ. He has done it by His own will. God did not exclude any one, but made Christ the sacrifice for our sin. Because you opened your heart to the gospel call the choice of God becomes special.
2. We are called by the name of Christ. You have one ID. We are all called by that name above all names. Children of Israel have been called as a people called by His name. They take Him to be “Wisdom, Righteousness, Sanctification, Redemption” 1:30. The pledges of His very name “Jesus” assures a continuous salvation. He is the beginning and the continuance of their holiness.
Call has two specific intentions. 1. General salvation.
2. Specific ministry.
Grace, gifts and blessing mix as ingredients in the working of the call. This is a great honor and a responsibility.
3. We are sanctified: a) Positional in Christ, we are established as children of God. This is an eternal relationship. b) Relative in our day today experiences and expression.
Sanctification is made possible because the Holy Spirit is at work reminding us of the finished work of sacrifice.
“Holiness unto the Lord” needs to written across all our transactions.
4. Holiness of Christ in us is manifested in our unity in that name.
Call, purpose, witness and peace become evident as we honor the name of the Lord. It was not Peter, Paul or Silas that died for the church, but Christ.
Jesus is the convergent point of all the perspective of the years to come.
The common hope, the common Lord, make us more closely one that does than any other bond that holds us together.
5. We are a reason for thanksgiving. Apostle Paul meditating up on the totality of the grace given to us, looking at our past, and having made us a people according to the will of God, yet manifesting the greatest quality of all, love has only one response to God – Thank you God. The very mention of the name of Christ would hush all clamor of schism or party spirit and join us perfectly together in the same mind and the same judgment. Thanks be to God.
