"God sets the model" by PT Mammen

We have announced that our focus during the month of October will be MISSIONS. We need to examine the true impact and implications of this special focus. Very often the word “missions” evokes a devotion to activities in other parts of the world. Here at ICCSJ we consider the old saying to be very valid, “Every heart with Christ is a missionary and every heart without Christ is a mission field”. Please consider the following Biblical facts.

God is the first missionary. John 3:16 shows what this missionary did. This is the best paradigm for all missionaries.
1. Loved the whole world. No one is exempted from this universal love. All are loved by God. If we desire other people to know Christ through our efforts we must have genuine love irrespective of culture, caste or creed.
2. Gave His most important asset, only begotten Son. In order to save this wicked world we must be willing to give some items that are precious to us.
3. The purpose is to give eternal life to those who believe.
4. The alternative is to be lost for ever. That fear becomes a motivating factor for us to move into action.

Also, let us consider how Christ was a missionary.
1. Home missionary to the home at Bethany of Lazarus.
2. He was foreign missionary to the Greeks who came to Him.
3. He was an urban missionary while in Jerusalem etc.
4. He was children’s missionary when He blessed them.
5. He was missionary to the poor, sick and needy.
6. He was missionary to the rich like Zacchaeus.
7. He was a missionary on the cross to the robber.
8. His last command was to go to the entire world and preach the gospel.

Let us examine before God how best we serve Him. This is something we do not have to do alone. Christ’s presence is assured when we stand in His name.
