The presence of the spirit of the Lord upon the Lord’s servant is the distinguishing factor. He is anointed to fulfill the mission of the Lord. Anointing is to set a person in to the office for public ministry. In the O.T. a prophet, priest or king is anointed into office. It a time for all the people rejoice and glorify God. During the public ministry of Jesus he applied this passage to Himself. Mat. 11:51; Luke 4:16-21

Today there are two applications from this passage.
1. Personal deliverance, the good news of salvation, forgiveness, invitation to enter into the new light, freedom from all sorts of captivity and experience the favor of the Lord.
2. Anointed to serve, as the Lord’s servant to bring forth the redemption message. The Lord has made his servant instrument of joy, restoration and vindication from the oppressor. We have a message proclaim so that nations will know that the Lord of glory reigns. We have no rest until the glory of the Lord is over all the earth.
