Every day we celebrate the blessing of long life. The psalmist first and foremost remembers the good old days during the reign of David the chosen one of God. When the enemy rages powerfully there are two pillars on which the kingdom will remain. 1. The faithfulness of God—compare with the precision of the heavens. The sun with unvarying regularity and punctuality, Moon following the appointed course with perfect accuracy, and the stars keep their orbits with undeviating exactness keeping the seasons. The heavens graphically portray the faithfulness of God with perpetuity and perfection. But God’s word outlast the heavens. 2. The mercy of God— celebrated in progression as an edifice being built. The nation founded in mercy shall be completed in mercy. Unspeakable and countless mercies are added to the multitude of former mercies. There you have reason for a new song sung confidently, publicly and perpetually because there is a covenant established which originated in the sovereign favor of God. He gives you a new song. Amen
