“Who Is King Today?” by Pastor P.T.Mammen

Scripture Reference:  Luke 19:28-44

Today we will explore why Christian Church celebrates Palm Sunday!  On Palm Sunday Christians celebrate the Triumphal Entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the week before his death  and resurrection. For many Christian churches, Palm Sunday, often referred to as "Passion Sunday," marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday. The Bible reveals that when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds greeted him with waving palm branches, and by covering his path with palm branches. Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross. The biblical account of Palm Sunday can be found in Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; and John 12:12-19. It is the last week of Jesus' earthly life. The crucifixion is six days away. Jesus is coming to Jerusalem despite the danger, because there are some things he must say, things he must do. Perhaps the most important thing that he said publicly, he said symbolically. He rode a donkey into town. And why is this so significant?

(1)  So far as we know, Jesus never rode a donkey before. Prior to this day, he always walked with his disciples. He ate and slept and sweated in their midst. Often he drew apart from them for prayer, but he never expected any special privilege. Now he sends them to fetch a donkey for him to ride. Why?

(2) Entering the city on a donkey's colt was a simple way to symbolize the truth that Jesus did in fact come as king. He accepts the title, and he accepts the people's praise. He remembered that when Solomon became king after David, he rode his father's favorite mule during the inaugural procession into the royal city of Jerusalem (1 Kings 1:33). Now, a far greater "son of David" rides triumphantly into the city of kings in similar fashion.

(3) A conquering king would have ridden into the city on a fearsome warhorse, or in a gilded chariot, but Jesus rode on the back of a donkey. While he accepted the title of "king," he refused to become the military messiah that the people--even his disciples--wanted.

(4) Jesus had specified that the donkey was to be a young colt that had not been ridden. This suggests the sacred aspect of his journey to Jerusalem. Only animals that had never been used as beasts of burden could be considered suitable for sacred purposes (Num. 19:2; 1 Sam. 6:7). The unridden animal's willingness to bear Jesus also says something about His power. Jesus is not only a king--he is a divine king. This is not a political occasion, but a sacred one.

“Mutuality in Love” By Pastor P.T.Mammen

Scripture Reference: Jude 20-25

Today we will explore another practical application – Mutuality.
Mutuality in Marriage. In the marriage relationship, mutuality involves face-to-face interaction that includes caring, loving, co-operation, empathy, respect, friendship, comfort, help, and communication (both verbal and non-verbal). Mutuality in marriage is being open to understanding the wishes, goals, hopes, and dreams of one another. If you are in a marriage where mutuality is a value, you both seek what is best for one another. Mutuality is the way you positively relate to one another. A lack of mutual sharing and mutual decision making can weaken your marriage relationship. If you are focused more on "me" rather than "you and me" or if you don't have a shared vision of your marriage, your relationship will suffer because you won't have the interdependence and connection with one another that mutuality can provide. Communication skills: Although there are times in every marriage when one of you is talking and the other isn't listening, don't let that become an everyday situation. If you want to connect more with one another, try these communication and listening methods. If your spouse wants to communicate with you: 1. Stop what you are doing so that you can give your spouse your full attention. 2. When talking with your spouse, maintain eye contact. 3. When you don't want to be distracted while talking with one another, choose a neutral location to have your conversation. 4. It is important to remember to listen to one another without interrupting. 5. Don't jump to conclusions about what your spouse is saying. 6. If you need clarification of what your spouse has said, ask questions, but don't point fingers. 7. Respond without being critical of what your spouse has said. 8. Be affirmative and supportive. 9. Decide together to make time to have alone time with each other on a regular basis -- preferably once a week.

What is your dream? We learn that with a combination of self-confidence found through faith in Jesus Christ, and an understanding of the other’s psychology, and a refusal to settle for less than one deserves, ONE CAN find real, fulfilling love and have the healthy relationship one has always dreamed of.

May be a new epiphany: The central problem in all of one’s relationships is that he/she had been deluded enough to believe that a man/woman is going to “complete me.”

Pinning all of one’s hopes on one person, expecting that he/she is going to fulfill my every need and make me happy was putting unfair pressure and unrealistic expectations on him/her. In other words, you are setting each relationship up for failure.

Through the confidence-building exercises and the affirmations in the God’s word, we learn how to appreciate our self-worth and identify which of my needs was my own responsibility to fulfill.

“Spirit of Love” By Pastor P.T.Mammen

Scripture Reference: Galatians 5:13-26

The Fruit of the Spirit

 LOVE is the absence of selfishness. I want to be less selfish and self-seeking than I was last month.
 JOY is the spiritual quality that releases us from circumstances. I want to be a joyful person.
 PEACE is the internal serenity that only God can give. I want peace to become more and more a way of life for me.
 PATIENCE is the absence of personal irritation at the actions of others. I want to be more patient than I was three months ago. If we are not increasing in patience it is only that we are not yielding and submitting to the Holy Spirit.
 KINDNESS is a beautiful reflection of God in our lives by the absence of an abrasive manner in my dealings with people. I want an increasing tendency toward personal kindness in my way with others.
 GOODNESS is being Godlike! It is the opposite of fallen humanity. I want to be doing good to all those around me.
 FAITHFULNESS is a trustworthy and dependable life. The kind of person that keeps their own life in order so that you can count on them. I want to make and keep my word and be making strides in reliability and dependability.
 MEEKNESS is the opposite of asserting yourself. I want my personal agenda and my rights to be in hopeless shape, crucified with Christ and fading.
 DISCIPLINE is defined by the Greek Dictionary as “a virtue, which consists in mastery of the appetites and passions, especially the sensual ones.” The only force that can control our flesh is the Holy Spirit. When yielded to Him we become vessels that are worshipful sacrifices to Him no longer to self. Self cannot control self. Flesh is not able to harness flesh. Only the Spirit can discipline us. I want to be graciously under the control of God’s Spirit of Discipline. I want to be beating under and giving knockout blows to your flesh as Paul was in I Cor 9:27.

"Acting Love" by Pastor P.T. Mammen

Scripture Reference: Song of Solomon 5:8-16

• Love is patient. Love comes from taking the time to get to know the other person rather than rushing into a relationship too quickly. Love requires a dedication of time and energy.
• Love is loyal. Love requires commitment People need to depend on each other in times of stress, illness or financial hardship
• Love is family. Love does not end with that one special person in our life. Love extends to parents, children, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and in-laws.
• Love feeds the soul. Love nurtures a part of the self that would feel empty and desolate without the sustenance of love in our life. Love makes us a better person, someone who is capable of caring for and considering the needs of more than just ourselves. Love is never violent or abusive. Love is meant to be shared. Love is most fulfilling when we give it away and share the experience with someone that we love and care about.
Here are additional personal principles of love…
   1. When I say “I love you” there is a deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward you. A feeling of attraction towards you – a sense of underlying oneness that fills my heart with joy.
   2. An expression of my own passion and I do so without any feeling towards me.
   3. It doesn’t mean that I feel ownership over you, or that I have expectations of your behavior or rigid ideas of future.
   4. I love you for what you are now, not for what I hope you will some day become. I have no plans to change you; I do support your desire to grow.
   5. I do respect your right to have your own feelings and your need to learn your own lessons in life. If I can help I will wait to be asked, and otherwise will allow you to go through the experiences you need to choose.
   6. I will be in touch with my own feelings and desires and communicate them to you without any expectation that you will act on them.
   7. I am happy with or without you. My bliss is my responsibility alone.
   8. I leave you free to be yourself to think your thoughts, judge your tastes, follow your inclinations behave in ways you decide are ways to your liking. I have no right to judge or change your behavior.
   9. I desire that you be happy- if your time spent with me is not joyful then you are welcome to go your way with my love and support still with you.
  10. We are two separate whole people, who have chosen to walk side by side through life for a time. I rejoice in the ecstasy of the present – moments we share together.
Application: Jesus gave us the new commandment that we love one another.
John 13:34. Does that mean we should love others when they do not love? Do we have to even bear the cross for others? Love is distinguished for the conduct it produces. Feeling is a result of that loving conduct.
1Cor. 13: 1-13 defines the conduct of love. Patience leads to permanence. Not in a hurry to throw away or trade.
Love creates caring heart in the lover and in the loved. Christ’s love for us creates in us a loving heart. Love induces Christ likeness.
Love is reassuring and creates security, and it is alive when it is giving.
You can stiff-arm people and keep them out or we can open arms and let them in. This is inviting vulnerability, but the alternative is to be in the coffin of selfishness.
Christ’s love compels us. 2Cor. 5:14

“How is Love practiced” By Pastor P.T.Mammen

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Today we will explore five principles of Christian love. Here are five basic principles of love — so that you don’t let it get away when you encounter your true love.
• Love requires trust. Love is a leap of faith. There is nothing tangible to hold onto other than the person we love and care about. There are no money-back guarantees, no warranties to rely on when relationships feel broken. Love requires making a leap and trusting that the other person will be there to catch you.
• Love is patient. Love comes from taking the time to get to know the other person rather than rushing into a relationship too quickly. Love is a gentle patience that relies on the foundation of friendship to build a strong supportive groundwork. Love requires a dedication of time and energy.
• Love is loyal. Love requires commitment — a commitment that is not evident in much of the media and Hollywood love stories of today, where betrayal and dishonesty seem to be the main theme. People need to depend on each other in times of stress, illness or financial hardship. If there is something constant in our life, that constant should be the people we love.
• Love is family. Love does not end with that one special person in our life. Love extends to parents, children, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and in-laws. Love is a continuation that extends to many other people in our life, people who deserve our love and involvement. Love is fluid and when given freely takes on a life of its own, extending and enriching the lives of others.
Take the time this today to appreciate the special person in your life. If you have not found that person yet, then take a risk and challenge yourself to meet someone new. However you spend the holiday, realize the ever-elusive concept of love is not made up of fairy tales and fantasy, but real people who demonstrate patience, trust, loyalty and the importance of family while feeding their own soul with love.

“Sowing and Growing II” By Pastor PT Mammen

Scripture Reference: Psalm 126

Today we will look to the Lord for His vision for the church in 2009. Again we look to the imagery of sowing and reaping. Those who returned from Babylonian captivity had great joy for the work of miracle God did for His children. So are we who have the precious word of God germinating and growing within us. We need to realize that sowing is a regular activity. When we do any thing special for God there will be problems from every corner.

1. The enemies of the people of faith. Compare Psalm 20.
2. The neighboring communities who do not wish to see any progress. That shakes their comfort zone.
3. Robbers and thieves who attack the sower. The hard worker has to preserve the value of the precious seed. Enemy does not realize how significant it is to the sower.
4. The solution is to return to prayer. Oppression some times takes away the initiative to prayer. But prayer gives the impetus for the people of God to go out into the hostile environment and with tears streaming down sow the seeds in a hurry and run to the place of safety.
5. We have to face failures and repeat our efforts until we obtain God’s victory. A believer may have to deal with the bitterest sorrow when testimony is not accepted.
6. Then victory is so precious, and the time of reaping is of inexpressible joy for he brings in the sheaves true realization of the patient hope.
7. Patient working and waiting will bear quiet triumph.

“Sowing and Growing” By Pastor P.T.Mammen

Scripture Reference: Luke 8:1-15

Today we will look to the Lord for His vision for the church in 2009.

We learn a few lessons from the parable of Jesus about sowing and growing from Luke 8:1-15. Probably this first parable was set up to communicate a current truth as well as a lesson for the future when they will be on their own. A parable is a practical example easily understood and recognized (not a fable) told to impart a solemn lesson, mostly in a dramatic form but not unreasonable or improbable. It helps to remember the truth easier. This parable punctuates realism and reminds disciples that not all truths declared will be accepted with ecstatic thrill.

The sower: The Holy Spirit is the master sower. The presenter is an instrument of the Spirit.

The seed: is the word of God, the plan, will and directive for kingdom living. In this case, it was the incarnate word Himself revealing the full truth. Accepting the word meant accepting Jesus.

Way side may refer to the fringe hearers who are more concerned with the wishes of the flesh, thoughts concerning earthly things. The ward cannot penetrate such hearts. Satan eventually wins over them. Judas, Pilate

Rock refers to hastily impressionable and excitable people, who make hasty decision for the Lord, but in the face of trouble, perplexity, discouragement or persecution the once loved faith quickly withers.

Thorns refer to those oppressed with the pressures of cares, riches, worldly pleasures, prestige and power, and chocks the joy of consistent abundant living. They begin well but are overtaken by the world’s influences.

Good soil refers to those committed to attain wisdom, holiness and righteousness, not mere hearers of the word but keep it.

God gives the hundred fold increase with those faithful few.

"Refreshing the System Energy" by Pastor P.T. Mammen

Scripture Reference: Isaiah 40:21-31

Today we will look to the Lord for energy for a fresh start. ICC is at a specific juncture and must possess explosive new power source. Isaiah in this chapter places before us a clear picture of God’s relationship with His people.

About God: He is an awesome God who stretched out the heavens and the entire universe by His power.

About man: What a privilege to acknowledge the creator and follow His foot steps. There is a scathing indictment on man who degrades himself by making idols to worship instead of the creator who is also father, shepherd, and covenant maker. But the image of the withering grass makes clear how temporary wealth or poverty is. Whatever is permanent is His love.

About immortality: Our good deeds of kindness, generosity, helpfulness are immortal and will live in other souls, and we build our own character, which will remain with God.

There is a contrast between the changing world and the unchanging word. cf: Matt. 24:35; 1 Pet. 1:24-25. Thought of God are expressed in word and revealed in the gospel. Salvation originates and manifests with God.

About waiting: Repose and activity are two conditions for physical life.

1. Passivity invites us to receive the gift of God for doing nothing. Night will pass and morning will appear.
2. Confidence in God that He will accomplish His word.
3. Those that wait for God long for His work and expect it.
4. Patiently, knowing in His time He will reward.
5. Submissive because it is His power to grant or withhold

It is not indifference, despair or rebellious discontent.
Renew our strength, Mount up as eagles, capacity for strenuous action, and patient endurance, tenacious perseverance till the end.

“Something New Here” By P.T.Mammen

Scritpure Isaiah 43:15-28

Today we will look to the Lord for a new thing. Introduction: from the first part of this chapter. The Lord has a new blessing for you today. The mercies of the Lord are new every day. We cannot be satisfied with the previous blessing.
Materially speaking, Solomon said everything is same. Eccl.1:9-11. History repeats itself, because man does not learn from the mistakes of the past. Look at the current predicament world wide!

God has promised some thing new for His people. List of 7:

1. New creation – A believer is made a new creature: 2Cor. 5:17
Old things that influenced life have been replaced with a new spirit. When the old is placed at the altar it is consumed and a spiritual product is made.
Behavior modification in itself is insufficient, but is a result of this Spirit induced cleansing process.

2. New Way – Hebrews 10:19-23 this is the reason we insist there is only one way for salvation. Salvation is made complete by the cleansing of conscience with the sprinkled blood. This is our on ramp to the high way called holiness Isaiah 35:8, leading to new spiritual heights.

3. New Song – Psalm 96:3 A song is the expression joy, refreshing of the heart and an inspirational force for worship and thanksgiving. It is a spontaneous out flow of love and adoration. Psalm 40:3 Song is given.

4. New heart and a new spirit - Ezekiel 11:19-20; 18:30, 31; 36:26.
Heart is the center of physical life. And so in the Spirit heart helps us to stay in the path to purity reaffirming the covenant relationship.

5. New Name – Isaiah 62:2 Identity for gentile believers to remind them of the covenant relation with God.

6. New heaven - Revelation 21:1

7. New Earth – Revelation 21:1-5

“Pleasure, Prayer and Passion!” by Dr. P.T.Mammen

Scripture Reference: Isaiah 55:1-13

Today we will focus on the new direction. We will look at the year ahead and see God working His plan for His people.

We shall actualize His design for ICC. We shall judge the status quo in the Spirit and not through human reasoning. Instead of being self absorbed in response to our own emotions we shall listen to what the Spirit says to the church. This year we need to identify the dynamism of three words; pleasure, prayer, passion.

1. The Pleasure of Union with God. God calls us to Himself through the baby in the major. God identifies with human struggles in Jesus of Nazareth. Name any tough situation we face, God says to us He is before us to prepare the way. Through faith accept God as the greatest gift we have and take pleasure in that union. He is waiting for partnership.

2. Prayer is the medium through which communion is strengthened. Turn from wickedness and seek God’s mercy in abject brokenness before God who knows us well. He invites us to draw closer to Him in our waking moments, in our working hours and in our leisure time. Spirit wants to capture us to ascend to new spiritual levels in enjoying His love.

3. Christ moved with passion wherever He went. Passion for abundant life, total passion for God experiencing the power resident in our walk with Him, passionate about being fully invested in winning souls, and passionate about the way the church adjusts to change around us. Change in the air is demographical, generational, economical, political, cultural, times and seasons with religious and philosophical challenge.

“What about the Manger!” by P.T.Mammen

Today we will identify what makes this manger significant. There is a deeper sense of fulfillment, something mystical or actualizing the promise of God. A manger is an ordinary experience but this one in Bethlehem stands out in all history. The Church of Nativity is built over the site and one has to crawl into the basement level through a small entrance. This was necessary to avoid the Muslim invaders from desecrating the place many times in past centuries. We know that the church reveres the place for many reasons.

1. This manger was a real let down, they would rather have found the king in the palace. This is a real problem for learned people. They expect to find answers to question in their way. The star kept on moving, and real wise people keep on pursuing answers until they find God. How about you?

2. Among mounting problems surrounding their journey wise men ultimately found God in the manger. When Jesus Christ is found by faith the manger becomes a place of real answers to problems. Have you found God? He is already revealed. Simply open your heart to Him. When we find God in the midst of struggles of uncertainty, anxiety and failure of world systems there is a real joy that envelopes us.

3. Manger becomes a place of worship. When we see God there is only one response and that is to respond to His humility, limitations and confinement and bow down in worship. He deserves our brokenness and willingness to abandon our comfort zones and offer heart felt worship. Jesus came to redeem us, create a clean heart and give us the Spirit to enable us to totally approach God as people who have found grace.

4. Manger becomes a place where we give our best. The most precious gifts were placed before Jesus. Each individual has their own peculiar gifts to offer before God. The sum total of the gifts is a balanced action befitting the king. You do not look at others to compare what they are offering. The question is “are you giving your best?” God accepts your gifts and uses it for His kingdom.

5. Manger gives you a change of plan or direction. The enemy has created an attractive plan for his advantage. However helpful and appealing the design is, your encounter with God will change the direction. The sense of failure is changed to fit God’s design for your life, family’s future and for His kingdom. May God enable us to experience the manger miracle.

“Named him Jesus” by PT Mammen

Scripture: Matthew 1:18-25

Today we will study the significance in the name “Jesus”. Angel gave this unique name to the God-child born in Bethlehem of Judea. Many other persons have been given this name at that time and since then. The meaning of the name applies only to Jesus of Nazareth. His name has varied implications. Jesus reminds us of God’s own methodology for our salvation. The savior makes us conscious of our sin.

In His name sin of the whole world has been forgiven.

Efficiency of salvation through Jesus does not validate forgiveness for the whole world. Salvation is appropriated by faith. Love and grace of God are sufficient for all, but the drawing of the Spirit is necessary for revelation of sin, righteousness and judgment to create the desire in the heart of every soul to turn to Christ. Conviction is at every level of receiving the gift of salvation.

Salvation from the guilt of sin removes condemnation. Romans 8:1.  Salvation from the power of sin enables us to live a sanctified life. This is a contemporary dynamic experience. Rom 6:11-14.  Salvation from the presence of sin occurs when our bodies are redeemed at the coming of Christ to receive the church. Rom. 8:23

“Throne of David” by PT Mammen

Scripture: 2 Samuel 7:4-17

Today we will see the significance of the prophecy of the angel, Gabriel.

From last week we know that the prophesies yet to be fulfilled are found in Luke 1:32-33. “The Lord God will give Him the throne of his father David and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever, his kingdom will never end.” Psalm 89:26-29, Isaiah 9:6-9, Revelation 1:5.

David was the chosen vessel for God to demonstrate His eternal righteousness. He had to endure major battles against many forces, the Philistines, Saul, the king of Israel, those loyal to the family of Saul and those within his own family. David was consecrated as king and seated on the throne. This throne was occupied by his succeeding progeny, some faithful and some unfaithful to God. God judged Israel and they were ruled by the Romans when Jesus came, and Herod occupied this throne. Herod was not the rightful heir, but by the resurrection of Jesus the anointing process was complete. The time is yet to come for Jesus of Nazareth to be reveled as the king.

By the signs of the time it is clear that the revelation of the true heir to the throne of David is imminent. The raging wars, constant threats from pirates and terrorists, major fluctuations in the stock markets, as well as the commodities markets, meltdown of the major financial markets and the fall of the manufacturing sector all indicate that the King is to be revealed soon. This man made tower of Babel is crumbling down. The Lord Himself will descend in the clouds, scatter the enemies and retake the throne of David to establish His eternal kingdom.

Scripture Reference: Acts 18:1-17

Today we will see how people react to issues confronting them. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a standard with which we can understand people.  We know that all who hear the gospel do not believe and join the church. The history of the church is surrounded by people and God.

Let us observe some names in this chapter.

1. Jesus the Christ, the savior, Messiah to the Jews.
2. Paul the preacher
3. Claudius the emperor of Rome AD 41- 54 ordered all Jews to leave.
4. Aquila of Pontus
5. Priscilla, wife of Aquila worked together with husband, hosted Paul, helped Paul to make a living, harmony in marriage, great example of Christian witness tried to persuade Jews and Greeks to come to faith in Jesus Christ. They accompanied Paul on his journey, willing to stay back while Paul went to reason with others.
6. Silas, a solid helper, considered to be older than Paul suffered with Paul in the jail.
7. Timothy, always available to serve.
8. Titius Justus, a worshiper of God, a gentile worshiping in the synagogue.
9. Crispus, the synagogue ruler who accepted the message with the family.
10. Gallio was the proconsul of Achaia, heard the case brought by Jews against Paul. They wanted Paul to be punished. An indifferent and politically correct acquitted Paul which enraged the Jews.
11. Sosthenes became ruler of the Synagoge when Crispus defected. Jews felt Sosthenes did not present a strong case. So they beat him up, but came to faith and followed Paul.
12. Apollos , a learned man proficient in scriptures spoke boldly.

“Thanksgiving & Forward Journey” by PT Mammen

Scripture: Exodus 15:1-18

Today we will see how thanksgiving principle opens up a new direction.

Israel witnessed a majestic deliverance over the Egyptian army. Crossing of the Red Sea remains as a great event in all of history. Archeologists have reported recent discoveries of artifacts related to the sunken Egyptian army. Four attributes of God are demonstrated here not only in words but in suitable actions.

1. Power
2. Supremacy
3. Holiness
4. Mercy versus judgment.

This passage is divided into five stanzas. Verses 1-5, 6-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-18.

The first four reaffirm the story of deliverance. The Lord is shown as the mighty one of Israel ready to save His people. A strong tower, a mighty warrior, avenger of the enemies, delivers with strong arms, drawn sword, power of His breath and unfailing love. The last stanza verses 13-18 direct the listener to look forward to what the Lord has in mind.

There is a journey ahead for all believers. This is not an easy path, rather beware of some strong enemies ahead. Looking ahead, each step of the way you must show up, but the Lord will enable you to do the battle to win victory for His name. He wants to establish a place for His name. God would plant them in the land of promise permanently. God commanded His people to go forward but He promised to go ahead. Thanks to God.

“Unknown Becomes Real” by P.T.Mammen

Today we will see how God becomes real to us.  Epicureans taught supreme good is happiness which led to hedonism.

Stoics taught living in harmony with nature, confident self sufficiency leads to pride. This approach leads to having proximity to God, and becomes easier to make own gods. Hand made gods make people turn inwardly and look at only what they can control. They are troubled when things beyond their control occur, and become desponded or depressed.

Then they seek other self mad methods for appeasement like addictions to life style and products.  Senseless images, local divinities, impersonal abstractions all worshipped in the place of the true God will lead people to reject the true living God.  Areopagus was the college of justice where pronouncements of justice was made.

New concepts Paul introduced:
1. Unity of God
2. The common brotherhood of man
3. The resurrection Christ
4. The reality of judgment day
5. The need to repentance.

The great unknown is the power behind the visible, let us worship Him in spirit and truth.
